The Weed

The main character in the story is Angoori. What makes her unique to write about is because she marries a man all because her dad dried Prabhati wet towel. The most significant feature about her is that she loves to wear rings and all sort of jewellery all over her body from her head to the toe. One odd in the story is why did she have to marry a man all because her dad fried a guys towel? Another is that city girls can't read or its a sin, but village woman's can and won't be a sin. I don't see why but I'm guessing it's because of her religion. The reader should learn that everybody has a different way of life, and that nobody is going to be the same as somebody next to them. Also, they should learn from how different religions are and what we do sometimes they cannot. Like here in the U.S the girls can wear anything they won't, but in some other countries girls have to cover their whole body head to toe from everybody even thought guys don't have to.  One unfamiliar word that I have found in this story is "purdah". When I look it up, it means the Hindu or Muslim system of sex segregation, practiced especially by keeping women in seclusion. I think it was used in the content because Angoori was suppose to be keep in place and not break the law or do anything she’s not suppose to do.

Practical Reading Blog

Cause and effect is the organization of the information in this article. It states that doing the same thing over and over again can cause you to not be bored anymore, and also to make a game out of it. From reading this article I can see that the author is very interesting about what hes writing. He puts a bunch of ways that can help you get unbored and gives many ways to help you understand it. So, the article is mainly about ways to fight the feeling of boredom. There are seven ways that you can do this. For an example, Dig in, which is when something is boring for two minutes then, do it for four minutes. But, if it’s still boring, do it for eight minutes and so on. It says in the article that this is a theory from the chinese, and also that the author thinks its true.

There are ways in the article that helps get the main point across. By giving points like, if you do this then this will happen or this can easily resolve your boredom. This article has really opened my eyes. I get bored sometimes when theres nothing to do, but now from reading this I can do something to help counteract my boredom. I think this can also help a lot of people from being bored all the time. We need to get this out more so everybody can have a chance to read this, and also to take advantage and try it out. This could help the world in many ways, like getting people outside the house or doing things that can help them move around instead of staying still all the time.

Google rejects White House request to pull Mohammad film clip

      From reading this article it seems to be that the order of information is based on sides. Google is trying to say they have the right to put what they wont because its freedom of speech, and the White House is trying to find ways to take it off Youtube completely. The author of this article has a certain tone which is apathetic, he doesn't show much care about what he’s writing. I mean he does have good facts about the topic but it seems that he is on Google's side. You can tell this from the author saying that the Youtube video is within all of their rights.
     The article is explaining that Google had made a Youtube movie that has started an upward anti-American protest in the Middle East. The reason that the Middle East is so mad about this video is because it says that there Prophet named Mohammad is a “fraud and philanderer”. The main point of this article is that the White House is trying to find a way for Google and there offensive video to be taken down. It says in the article that “U.S. authorities said on Friday that they were investigating whether the film's producer, Nakoula Basseley,  had violated any terms of his prison release (Basseley was convicted in 2010 for bank fraud and released from prison on probation last June).”
    This article makes you have different feeling, such as making me feel as if we have no freedom of speech in our so called free country. Also, that people would over react all because of somebody that has a different religion saying something bad about theirs. Overall they shouldn't care what people say if it’s not true. Even Though this movie has affected the world in many ways. It has caused killing of Americans in the Middle East.

What would of happen?

February 15, 2013, a certain asteroid named DA14 came so close from colliding with earth. The author used most importance to least in this blog talking about what would've happened if this did hit, and at the end about just statistics. The author himself does not seem so afraid of this event. He says in the article “but many other asteroids like it have made a crash landing on the planet in the past” and this makes it seem like it happen before and shouldn't worry about it. Some things the article is explaining is things like how big it really is, and what kind of damage it could cause.
“The asteroid is about 150 feet in diameter and has a mass estimated at about 143,000 tons," NASA astronomer Don Yeomans says. They say this could be just like the "Tunguska Event" that happen in 1908, but you never know what could happen truly. What they are trying to get across is that we are lucky this passed by and didn’t hit us. If this has happen to of hit us it would caused  a blast with the energy equivalent of about 2.4 million tons or (2.4 megatons) of TNT explosives! Which is way bigger than an atomic bomb. To me this would of been a terrible event and I think anybody would've said the same thing. Even thought this kind of asteroid woudent of been like the one that distroyed the dinosours but would of still been really bad.

Why Autistic Kids Make Easy Targets for School Bullies

           First of all the way this article was laid out was from the most importance to least importance. The reason I picked this was because it gave main points in the beginning of the post and other details later on.
           Throughout the article there seems to be no anger or frustration from the author himself, he just gives plain details about why they are being bullied and how come it’s more of them being bullied then other kids. The article itself is simply explaining why these autistic kids are being more likely to be bullied than others. A statement from the article itself says “In the study, about 46% of autistic children in middle and high school told their parents they were victimized at school within the previous year, compared with just over 10% of children in the general population”.

These kids are being bullied and picked on all because they don't even know they're being bullied on. For instance from the article it talks about how a girl was getting bullied but never knew, “Riley-Hall recalled an incident involving her daughter in elementary school. “Little boys were getting her to say dirty words and laughing at her. She thought this was a good thing and that they were being friendly, but they were really making fun of her,” she says, describing how another girl, who knew it was wrong, told the teacher.”

    For me, this is really inappropriate. Kids shouldn't bully special needs kids all because they don’t know what’s going on. Bullying has taken a big role in the world already. It has been caused thousands of suicides across the country.

Arctic Sea Ice Sets a New Low That Leads to Warnings

The drastic melting of Arctic sea ice has finally ended for the year scientists said on September 19, 2012 , but not before demolishing the previous record and setting off warnings about the fast pace of change in the region. The low point for 2012 was reached Sunday, National Snow and Ice Data Center which said that sea ice that day covered about 1.32 million square miles of the surface of the Arctic Ocean! Thats unbelievable if you ask me.

Scientists also said the rapid warming of the land to be a consequence of the human release of greenhouse gases. They see the melting as an very early warning of big changes to come in the rest of the world. The ice in the sea is declining much faster than it had been predicted in the last big United Nations report on the state of the climate, published in 2007. The disappearance of the summer ice cover takes away a white reflective surface with a much darker ocean surface allowing the region to trap more of the sun’s heat which is not good.

What we need to do is help stop global warming. Yes, it can be difficult to stop it but if we try with all our might maybe we can help stop it. Some things that I thought of that could help is things like Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. I know there are things now that our community is trying to  do so we can recycle. There giving us recycle bins just like the garbage ones but there blue and are only for things that can be recycle.

If this keeps up then there's going to be a melt down around the world and it will get flooded. We will all die from this because there will be very high waves that will take everything out. Just think about it for a second. Waves 1,000 feet high coming to you from all directions and there is nothing you can do. There's a movie that shows what would happen but I don't remember what it's called. If you do then please help me remember.

 

Something else that can help reduce global warming is using less heat & air conditioning.  What you can do is first turn down the heat while you're sleeping at night or away during the day, and keep temperatures moderate at all times. You want to know something exciting and what most people don’t know? Did you know that “We burn fossil fuels such as gasoline, oil, coal, and natural gas to run our vehicle engines and to heat and light our homes. Burning fossil fuels increases the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere”?

One of the most important thing that can really help the warming is driving less and driving smart. Most people don’t understand is that you can save gasoline easily by just walking and biking. They are also great exercise that we Americans need! I mean we can also save gas by carpooling to work or school.

The day at the DMV

   Yesterday was one of the most exciting days I've ever had even tho It was a Monday and I had school. Mondays is the worst day to me, because it's another day of boring school and I get really tired. Some how, I was really looking forward to this day because it was my moms birthday and she didn't need to go to work. For me this is a big opportunity to get out of school early and spend time with her, but this was different birthday.

   The day was 9/16/2012 and it looked like it was going to be a raining day, but It seemed like any other day to me. When I first got to school I felt so drained and didn't want to do any work, but I would get in trouble if I did that. So, when we first walked to class it looked like the bottom of the sky was about to fall out on top of us. Of course nobody wanted to get wet at the beginning of the day so we hurried across camps to our building. While the first classes went by we saw that it was raining outside, we hoped that it would stop so we don't have to get wet while going to out next class. During 2 period I felt my pants starting to vibrate and I didn't know what was going on at first. Then, I put my hand in my pocket to find what was going on and I pulled out my phone. I find out that my mom was calling me while I was in school. When I answer it she told me she was going to pick me up early to take me to the DMV to get my drivers permit.

   So after lunch, when we got back into math class they told me they I was signing out early. Of course I knew why but I was so ready to get out of school. On the way to the DMV I felt fine at first but then a wave of fear ran threw me. I didn't know why at first but I found out that I was nervous. When we first got there I found out that I wasn't the only kid getting his permit. After taking my test lucky I passed and was super happy.
